The Lalbagh Girls' Intermediate College was founded in Lucknow on April 18th 1870 in a rented room in nazirabad Bazar by Miss Isabella thoburn, an American missionary of the Methodist church in the USA. The school then called the Christian Day School was started with only 6 girls but by November of that very near the enrollment rose to twenty five.

In 1871 the present site of Lal bagh was purchased. It was the residence of the old nawabs of Awadh and the legend is that they buried here with their treasures, a ruby. The name Lalbagh (Garden of Rubies) originated from that legend.

In 1886 the first High School class of only two girls passed the Entrance Examination (which is now called High School Examination) from Calcutta University in 1888 the first F.A (Inter) class of two successfully passed the examination of Calcutta University.

In 1893 the kindergarten was started and also a training class which had only 5 students. In 1894 the first BA class was opened and the following year the college was affiliated to Allahabad University.

Within two decades the steady increase in the number of students and activities called for more space in 1923 the college moved to chandbagh with 9th and 10th classes the name was changed to IsabellaThoburn college but in 1926 the two classes returned to Lalbagh and the school was upgraded to High School.

In 1949 Intermediate class was added and the school was renamed as the Lal Bagh Girls Inter College.

The year 1956 marked the opening of the C.T Nursery Training class, another new venture in the Lal Bagh’s educational expansion.

In the year 2017 English Medium is opened expanding the opportunities even further.

The name ‘Lal Bagh’ is most appropriate because we are treasure hunters , not of rubies and gold but of truth and beauty.

In upholding those qualities, we are fulfilling the true meaning of education which is to lead the human mind and Soul to the highest and the best. In this respect we are adding one more feather to our cap by introducing LALBAGH ISABELLA THOBURN SCHOOL.

All these initiatives made by us finally converge and arrive at one common aim which is adding value and worth to our students. The whole programme of this college is centered around this end objective.
